Festive lights and displays: Where to see them in Burlington

With the holiday season upon us, everybody is out searching for the most festive lights.

While private residences often offer up the most exciting displays, public presentations can provide a convenient and organized way to enjoy the festive splendour.

Here are a few public displays that the entire family can enjoy.

Winter Wonders

This is a unique outdoor evening experience at the Royal Botanical Gardens where visitors can walk along Hendrie Park’s picturesque pathways adorned with charming festive lights, interactive installations and magical displays that tell the stories of unique winter wonders. You can also stroll through the garden to the rhythm of festive music while indulging in the warm tastes and fragrances of the holiday season. This is a ticketed event that begins tonight (Nov. 23) and continues until Jan. 7.

Burlington Festival of Lights

Starting tomorrow (Nov. 24) and running to Jan. 8 this festival illuminates Burlington’s waterfront as you can stroll through Spencer Smith Park to view the many themed displays or get a good look from your vehicle as you slowly drive along Lakeshore Rd. The Festival of Lights has become a favourite tradition in Burlington with 2023 marking its 28th year. You can enjoy the lights daily from 4 p.m. to midnight with all day and night on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Orthodox Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Annual Festival of Trees

Taking place at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre (BPAC) until Dec. 17, this festival features 28 beautifully decorated trees that have been sponsored and created by local businesses and organizations. Viewing times are Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. or one hour prior to performances at the arts centre. Visitors also have a chance to take home one of the trees through a silent auction that helps fund the BPAC.

Aldershot Village

The holiday season was officially launched last weekend with the Christmas tree lighting in Aldershot Village. Sponsored by the Aldershot Business Improvement Area you can view the giant lighted tree on Plains Rd.

Candlelit Stroll

During this event, you can not only see the light show but also be a part of it. The Candlelit Stroll is a walk through downtown Burlington tomorrow night (Nov. 24) from 7 to 9 p.m. where participants can take part in carolling while enjoying treats along the route and all the while carrying a candle to light the way.

Lights from the Rooftop

You can watch the Candlelit Stroll from the rooftop of Joseph Brant Museum and then every Thursday thereafter enjoy the view of the Burlington Festival of Lights. From the excellent vantage point, you will also be able to enjoy free hot chocolate and popcorn. This runs from 6 to 9 p.m. until December 28
