A major road in Halton Hills closed since Wednesday (August 14) to due to a sinkhole remains off limits to traffic on Friday night.

Halton Region is still working to repair the sinkhole which has resulted in the closure of Eighth Line North, between 5 Side Road and Steeles Avenue.

The road is often used by commuters in Brampton, Mississauga and Milton.

“Repair crews are continuing to work quickly to repair the depression on Eighth Line approximately 50 metres south of 5 Side Road,” Halton Regional communications specialist Holly Einboden told INhalton.com. “Eighth Line will remain closed to all traffic until repairs are complete.”

Staff are continuing their investigation into the cause of the depression, added Einboden.

Drivers who usually use that road should find an alternate that includes Winston Churchill Boulevard, Ninth Line or Trafalgar Road.
