Will Burlington get Ontario to step up and protect Millcroft Golf Course? City’s mayor says ‘short answer is no’

Several Burlington residents have expressed their concerns in regards to the proposed development at Millcroft Golf Course.
The concerns follow the recent news of the Glen Abbey golf course in Oakville being saved from a proposed development.
“We were all delighted by the news of the Province stepping up to protect Glen Abbey, and the decision on July 9 by Clublink to withdraw their appeals to the Ontario Lands Tribunal and continue operating as a golf course,” said Meed Ward on her website in response to these concerns.
In an interview with halton.insauga.com‘s Khaled Iwamura, Meed Ward confirmed that residents have been wondering what that means for Burlington’s golf course and whether the city would get the province to step in and stop the development.
“The short answer is no,” said Meed Ward, adding that the Glen Abbey application was further along than the one for Millcroft in Burlington.
“The applicant has a right to get a decision from council on this. That’s the first step and that process is underway right now,” confirmed Meed Ward.
“We’ve received no indication that we can or should set that aside, so we need to complete that work and complete that step. I continue to urge the community to stay involved in this important matter.”
According to Meed Ward, the review will culminate in a recommendation from staff. This could include refusal, approval, or approval with conditions along with a vote by council that could be to accept or reject the staff recommendation or make modifications to it.
“Please rest assured that all of Burlington Council is deeply committed to ensuring the best decision is made on the Millcroft file, especially given the significant impacts on greenspace, with a view to ensuring the best outcome in conversation with our residents, planning staff and the applicant,” explained Meed Ward on her website.
The recommendation and vote are expected by September or October 2021.
