The heat is on and Oakville libraries can help you stay cool.

A heat warning has been issued for Halton Region today (July 4), with Environment Canada predicting daytime temperature to be in the high 20s to low 30s with an overnight low in the 20s.

It will feel even warmer as the humidex is expected to make it feel like temperatures are in the high 30s and even low 40s.

People are reminded that the extreme heat affects everyone and are being advised to stay in a cool place and drink plenty of water.

If you need a place to cool off, Oakville Public Libraries are designated cooling centres that are available to the public during their hours of operation.

“During the heat alerts take the necessary precautions to limit outdoor activity and keep cool,” OPL said on Twitter.

These facilities will offer an air-conditioned space for people to rest and grab a cool drink of water. Facilities will be available during our hours of operation only.
