What's closed and open in Mississauga, Ontario

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently announced that next Monday (Sept. 19) will be a national holiday and day of mourning for federal workers across Canada as Queen Elizabeth II is buried in England.

Queen Elizabeth II served as Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada and the Commonwealth for 70 years until her death on Sept. 8 at the age of 96.

While only federal workers will get the day off on Sept. 19, Halton residents may be wondering what exactly will be closed that day.

So, without further ado, here’s what will be closed on Sept. 19 in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.

Open:

  • Most restaurants that operate on holidays will be open but call ahead to be sure
  • Rabba grocery stores
  • Shoppers Drug Marts
  • Toronto Premium Outlets (10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.)
  • Major shopping malls
  • Banks
  • LCBO locations
  • Beer Store locations
  • Milton Town Hall

Closed:

  • Federal services
  • Canada Post
  • Burlington City Hall and other non-essential city services, including Service Burlington

While Sept. 19, 2022, is not a statutory holiday, businesses may still choose to honour the day of mourning, so it’s best to check ahead and confirm.
