Here’s what’s open and closed this Thanksgiving Monday in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills.
A long-standing statutory holiday, Thanksgiving prompts many public and private businesses and companies to close their doors for the day. While some shops and restaurants might choose to stay open, it’s always best to call ahead before heading out.
Open:
- Local parks and certain outdoor recreational amenities
- Most Shoppers Drug Marts, but call ahead to be sure
- Most restaurants will be open for dining, takeout and delivery, but be sure to call ahead (especially since many restaurants are closed on Mondays as part of their regular hours)
- Some smaller grocery stores, such as Rabba grocery stores
- Conservation Halton Parks: Crawford Lake, Hilton Falls, Kelso, Mount Nemo, Mountsberg, Rattlesnake Point
- Terra Cotta Conservation Area in Halton Hills
- Some Starbucks (hours may vary at different locations)
- Toronto Premium Outlets (9:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.)
- Other major malls that are open:
– Square One (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
– Bramalea City Centre (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
– Vaughan Mills (11 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
– Eaton Centre (11 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
Closed:
- Banks
- City/town halls
- Most Halton Region offices and services, although all essential services remain open
- The Animal Shelter will be closed to appointments on Monday, Oct. 14. To report an animal control-related emergency on a holiday, please call 905-335-7777.
- Most community centres, seniors’ centres, pools, arenas and libraries
- All Beer Store locations
- LCBO
- Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts
- Mattamy National Cycling Centre

- Oakville Place
Transit:
- Oakville Transit will be offering its holiday service schedule
- Burlington Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule
- Milton Transit will not operate
- GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule
Garbage:
No garbage pick up on Monday, Oct. 14 (all waste collection will be one day later than usual)
