Voters can now cast ballots for Wards 1 and 2 school trustee by-election in Burlington

Voters can cast their ballots early in the upcoming Halton District School Board trustee by-election for Burlington, Wards 1 and 2. 

Eligible voters have the option to vote online (registration is required and closes on May 19 at 3 pm) between May 15 and 19 or in person at an advance poll on May 24.

In-person voting will take place on election day (May 29).

The by-election was called after former trustee Matthew Diodati was forced to resign due to health reasons.

Diodati stepped down in February, just three months into his term. 

Candidates running to replace Diodati include Robbie Brydon, Celina Close, Michael James Duhacek, Chris Goff, Anthony Alexander Hoyes, Omar Kayed, Ross Montgomery and Daniel Warren Oke.

Individuals eligible to vote in the by-election for Halton District School Board Trustee – Burlington, Wards 1 and 2 must be:

  • a current English-public school board supporter
  • be a resident of Burlington (own or rent) in Ward 1 or Ward 2
  • non-resident, but you or your spouse own or rent residential property in Ward 1 or Ward 2
  • 18 years of age or older
  • a Canadian citizen
  • not prohibited from voting under any law

Advance voting is available at two locations on May 24, from 12 – 8 p.m:

Voters must bring their Voter Information Letter and one piece of identification with their name and address. Photo identification is not required.
