Volunteers association donates over $750,000 to Oakville hospital

Volunteers at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital give in many different ways.

On top of their many hours of service to the local hospital, volunteers are making a difference with much-needed money to help provide medical staff with the latest technology and equipment.

Over 750 members of the Oakville Hospital Volunteer Association (OHVA) presented the team at Halton Healthcare with a donation for $752,586 to go towards medical needs at the local hospital.

The volunteers raised the funds through revenue generated from the gift shop, vendor sales, 50/50 draws, events and donations.

“Their long history of giving and dedicated service truly makes a difference in the quality of care our hospital provides,” said Carole Moore, Chief Operating Officer at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

The donation was presented at the recent OHVA Annual Meeting.

“We have enthusiastic volunteers. It’s their tremendous efforts and generous donations of skill and time that help us to make this significant donation,” said Anita Ferrari, Chair, Oakville Hospital Volunteer Association. “These funds will be used toward the purchase of much needed medical equipment and other priority needs to help ensure that the healthcare professionals at the hospital are able to give our community the best care possible.”

Also at the meeting, four long-standing volunteers were recognized for their commitment to the hospital, including Sheila Thompson (has served 55 years), Terry Taylor, (30 years), and Carole Bennett and Barbara Wolfraim (both served 25 years.

In addition, two OHVA educational bursary recipients, Isabella Parente and Brayden Delamere, were also recognized.
