Vibrant floral display celebrates Burlington’s 150th birthday

A flower garden that celebrates Burlington’s sesquicentennial was unveiled for the first time today (July 19).

Located near the waterfront at Spencer Smith Park, the display was created by the City’s parks crew to celebrate the 150+ years that Burlington has existed.

“Come celebrate #BurlON‘s 150th anniversary at Spencer Smith Park and enjoy all the views and exciting opportunities the waterfront and downtown has to offer,” reads a social media message after the finishing touches were completed on the project.

Flowers used in the display are white ageratum, blue ageratum, alternanthera purple night, alternanthera Missouri, yellow marigolds, and black coral elephant ear.

The year-long celebrations mark the coming together of the villages of Wellington Square and Port Nelson to become the Village of Burlington in 1873, as well as to honour the time that indigenous people lived in the area prior to the settlement of Europeans.
