A Burlington library branch had to be closed over the weekend after a car smashed through the front window.

The Alton Library is part of the complex that also houses Frank J. Hayden Secondary school and Haber Community Centre at Dundas St. and Tim Dobbie Dr.

“We are very glad to be able to welcome people back into the branch so soon,” said branch manager Amanda Freeman.

“This library is busy with families, especially during Summer Reading Club. We are very grateful to all our BPL staff and partner organizations for getting us back into operation so quickly.”

The branch closed to the public Saturday and Sunday after a car collided with the building’s large glass windows. A small area of the branch is closed off with barriers until the damage can be fixed. The remainder of the space is still open for browsing, borrowing, programs, and study.

“Our community partners are working hard to investigate and permanently repair the exterior damage,” said Nicole Tewkesbury, director of Finance & Infrastructure at BPL.

No one was seriously injured in the collision. It occurred before the branch opened Saturday morning.
