The investigation is ongoing into an early-morning shooting in Burlington.

Halton Police received a 911 call at 7:20 a.m. from a male resident about shots fired at his townhouse complex at 895 Maple Avenue.

The male says that at 4:45 a.m., someone had rung his doorbell several times. When he went outside he observed a passenger vehicle parked on the street, and several gunshots were reportedly fired in his direction from behind the vehicle.

“The male person was not struck by any bullets and was not injured in this incident,” police say. “He returned inside his home and believes the parked passenger vehicle then drove off onto Maple Avenue.”

Police found two bullet holes in the male’s garage door, as well as a third bullet that struck a parked pickup truck in the adjacent neighbour’s driveway and ricocheted into the garage door of the neighbouring residence.

Police say the incident appears to be targeted and could be the result of an ongoing dispute involving the targeted male.

“This is a very rare occurrence in the City of Burlington and there have not been any other recent reports of firearms being discharged in this manner. There is no indication at this time that any person has been injured in this incident,” police say.

Police also emphasize that there is no known connection between this incident and the abduction on Thursday, August 8.

The investigation is continuing.
