Oakville and Burlington drivers who regularly use Burloak Dr., south of the QEW, should expect delays beginning next week.

Metrolinx, the company that runs GO service in Ontario, will begin construction on a rail underpass with an ultimate goal of providing train service every 15 minutes on the Lakeshore West rail corridor.

“The underpass will enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety and will optimize traffic flow at this crossing,” said a Metrolinx spokesperson.

The construction will get underway next week with duct bank installation, which will take three to four weeks, finishing by mid-February.

It will happen weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and involve the following:

  • Construction of new utility duct bank across Burloak Drive, between Superior Ct./Prince William Dr. and Harvester Rd./Wyecroft Rd.
  • Excavation
  • Installation of steel road plates
  • Forming work, concrete pouring, and removals of forms
  • Backfilling, removal of plates and paving

Short-term lane closures will be in effect for the entire time of the project, which will last until April.
