Oakville business leaders Teresa Cascioli and Robert Poirier are receiving the province’s highest civilian honour for individuals.
Cascioli and Poirier are among the 24 new appointments announced Friday (Nov. 4) to the Order of Ontario for 2021 by the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Chancellor of the Order of Ontario.
The Order of Ontario recognizes exceptional leaders from all walks of life and diverse fields of endeavour whose impact and lasting legacy have played an important role in building a stronger province, country and world.
“As Chancellor of the Order, I join Ontarians in congratulating the 2021 Order of Ontario appointees,” said the Lieutenant Governor. “Their service to our province is a reminder to all of us fortunate enough to call Ontario home, that the fabric of society is knit together by good deeds and the dedication of individuals.
“May their accomplishments be an inspiration and example for many to follow.”
The former CEO of Hamilton’s Lakeport Brewing, Cascioli was instrumental in saving the company from bankruptcy and turning it into a success story in a highly competitive, male-dominated competitive beer industry.
Founder of the Teresa Cascioli Charitable Foundation, she has turned her focus to supporting her community through numerous generous philanthropic endeavors.
As the former chair and one of the longest serving board directors at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Poirier (pictured below) helped transform the airfield into one of the most successful, community-oriented, and environmentally sustainable urban airports in North America.
He currently serves as chair overseeing Ontario’s transition to a circular economy and as chair of Metrolinx’s real estate committee responsible for transit-oriented development and community benefits.
Poirier, who was also elected as chair of the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority’s Board for waste and recycling back in June of 2020, is committed to creating a more environmentally and community friendly province.
Nominees for the Order of Ontario are long-term or former residents of the province and are people whose career, in any field, has had a major impact or influence on Ontario, Canada or abroad.
The Lieutenant Governor will present the province’s highest honour to Cascioli and Poirier and the other new appointees at a ceremony to be held later this month on Monday, Nov. 21.
