Oakville runners Riley Flemington and Dylan Ferri are coming home with some hardware from this past weekend’s Canadian Track and Field Championships in Langley, B.C.

The local U20 middle distance runners collected a silver medal and bronze medal respectively in the 1,500m men’s final Saturday night (July 29) at the national championships.

Despite being the pre-race favourite heading into the final, the 19-year-old Flemington will have to settle for silver after being edged by out Regina native Jon Podbielski.

The University of Michigan student finished the race with a time of 3:49.80, just behind Podbielski who used a 55-second final lap to cross the line in time of 3:49.62 and win gold.

Ferri, who is heading into his second year at the University of Guelph, finished third with a time of 3:51.85.

Flemington, a graduate of Appleby College, won a bronze medal with the 4X400m Canadian team at the World U20 Championships in Cali, Columbia last year. He finished as the 2022 Canadian U20 runner-up at 800 meters and fourth at 1,500 meters.
