A sweeper truck was brought out to clean oil spill.

A major Burlington road is expected to be closed for hours after a diesel tanker spilled its load on Monday evening (July 22).

INhalton.com has learned that a section of Upper Middle Road is closed after a tank on a tractor-trailer carrying diesel ruptured and spilled onto the road and down the sewers.

The rupture happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. and it is reported that approximately 100 litres of diesel fuel spilled onto the road.

Emergency crews including Burlington Fire and Halton Regional Police are currently on the scene. A cleanup crew from Halton Region has also been called in to help clean up the spill.

Sand is being brought in to help soak up the diesel and the City of Burlington is expected to provide street sweepers to help clean up the sand.

Upper Middle Road is closed between Walkers Line and Cleaver Avenue. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while emergency crews conduct their work.
