Drivers in Hamilton and Burlington won’t be able to use Eastport Dr. overnight to cross Hamilton Harbour all this week.
Starting tonight (Sept. 11), the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge will face full lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Sept. 17.
The work is being done to carry out ongoing maintenance work on the bridge. Eastport Dr. is the road that crosses the bridge.
The closures will affect all vehicle and pedestrian traffic in both directions.
This week’s closures are aside from the ongoing work on the bridge that has seen regular lane closures throughout the summer.
Various forms of construction and maintenance on the bridge are expected to continue until the end of the year.
Constructed in 1961, the 381-ft bridge is the sixth bridge to span the canal since 1830. The lift allows vessels to enter and exit Hamilton Harbour into Lake Ontario.
