Ontario, Burlington, road street construction delays traffic detour

The reworking of a major Burlington road will bring traffic disruptions in the days ahead.

Starting today (Oct. 29), Waterdown Road, south of Flatt Road, will be limited to a single lane with temporary signals.

The work being carried out will eventually lead to the widening of the road. It will continue until Friday, Nov. 8.

The entire project is part of the plan to eventually widen Waterdown Road from Mountain Brow Road to Craven Avenue to four lanes.

As well as the road widening, a sidewalk will be put in on a portion of the east side of Waterdown.

Other plans include new lighting, bike lanes and a multi-use pathway along the stretch of road.

The joint project between the City of Burlington and Halton Region, with support from the City of Hamilton is considered a large undertaking to accommodate future growth in the area.

“This is a major project that will improve the way we move through Burlington,” construction officials said earlier this year. “As the growth in the northern part of the city continues we have to be ready to meet the public’s needs.”

An information portal has been set up for the public to monitor the progress of the project.

The portal can be found here.
