Getting from here to there — across the harbour — is expected to get a little more chaotic for Hamilton and Burlington drivers in the days ahead.

Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation has just announced there will be lane closures on the Burlington Skyway throughout July. As well, there will be ongoing lane closures on Eastport Dr. over the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge.

On the Skyway, All Niagara-bound lanes on the bridge will close every Friday night in July for road work construction. The work will take place on July 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Lanes will begin shutting down at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays and then re-open at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

Meanwhile, the continuing overhaul of the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge will lead to slowdowns through the area on Eastport Dr. until early next year.

During the construction work, three of the four lanes will be closed. The one remaining lane will open for alternating traffic with signalers or traffic lights.

The bridge will remain open for cyclists and pedestrians during this period and marine traffic will not be affected, according to Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC).

The lift bridge lane closures have been pushed back to July 6 when the work is expected to begin that will continue until January 2024.
