Town grant will allow Milton hospital to purchase new surgical equipment

A grant from the Milton Community Fun will allow the local hospital to purchase a much-needed piece of equipment.

The $43,042 will be used by Milton District Hospital to purchasing an additional lntelliVue Patient Monitor MX 750, which is used to monitor a patient’s vital signs during day surgeries and endoscopy procedures.

“Timely testing and surgical intervention is key to ensuring the best outcome possible for our patients,” said Dr. Kevin Kwan, chief of surgery.

“Having ready access to these specialized patient monitors is crucial as we continue to accommodate our growing patient population. It will enable us to better utilize our existing surgical and day procedure spaces so we can conduct more surgical and endoscopy procedures.”

The supplementary patient monitor will also provide a backup for current equipment.

“We are always grateful for the funding provided by the Milton Community Fund. Over the years, this fund has helped us purchase vital pieces of medical equipment,” said Janet Skupsky, chief operating officer at Milton District Hospital.

“This year’s donation means our community members will have increased access to endoscopies and surgical procedures, close to home.”

The Milton Community Fund was established in 2001 to distribute a portion of the funds that the Town received from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Mohawk location).

“These grants provide us the ability to better serve our ever-growing community and may reduce surgical wait times,” said Kwan. “We thank the Town of Milton for helping provide our medical teams with the tools they need to provide the best possible care to our patients.”
