Two Burlington agencies are coming together to help boost the local economy.
Tourism Burlington has announced that it will merge into Burlington Economic Development in a move that both organizations believe will streamline operations.
Both independent bodies that fall under the jurisdiction of the City of Burlington, the merger takes place to pursue similar goals of driving the local economy through various actions.
“The decision to merge Tourism Burlington into Burlington Economic Development marks a pivotal moment for Burlington as we move toward a much more unified and coordinated approach to driving economic growth in our community,” said Ron Laidman, Chair of the Board of Directors at Burlington Economic Development. “Tourism is a significant economic driver, and by merging the two organizations under a single mandate we will be able to create synergies, streamline efforts, and foster innovation that drives sustainable development and enhances the overall Burlington experience for businesses, visitors and residents alike.”
The merger was endorsed by Burlington City council today (March 19).
Burlington Economic Development works to generate business by attracting companies to the city, supporting existing businesses and encouraging start-ups.
With tourism now coming under its umbrella, Burlington Economic Development plans to use the city’s natural, cultural, and social resources to draw visitors to Burlington which will create economic benefits for the entire city.
