Halloween (Oct. 31) is right around the corner and keeping your kid safe while trick-or-treating in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills is most important.
A fun and rewarding evening for kids, parents can help keep their children safe by following a few safety tips provided by Halton Healthcare.
“Halloween is just around the corner, and it is a fun evening for all those little ghouls and ghosts,” said Kassondra Stockman-Sousa, Emergency Preparedness Advisor for Halton Healthcare. “To keep trick-or-treating as fun as possible, we need to be as safe as possible.”
Stockman-Sousa says, from one parent to another, here are seven tips that will help keep your children safe this Halloween:
- Stay in well-lit areas. Only visit houses with the lights on. Ensure your children never go inside a stranger’s home.
- Ensure your children never go alone. Always stay with a parent or in a group.
- Be careful crossing the street. It’s best to do so at designated crosswalks.
- Add reflective tape or other reflective devices to your child’s costume, and to your own clothes as well.
- Look over all the treats to ensure they are sealed and intact before eating. Discard all opened, damaged, or homemade treats.
- Drive slowly and watch out for kids.
- And of course, always practice good hand hygiene before eating those goodies.
