The Skyway Community Centre is on track to open later this year.
Already several components are in place that give a clearer picture of what it will look like.
A new time-lapse video has been released which shows the building progress of the $40 million structure that is taking shape on Kenwood Ave. in the southeast area of the city.
When complete, the facility will be Burlington’s most state-of-the-art public building.
The 47,000-sq.-ft structure will be home to an NHL-sized ice pad with seating, six change rooms complete with washrooms and showers, multi-house program areas with kitchens, and a three-lane indoor walking track among several other amenities.
And that’s just inside.
The surrounding park will see a new baseball diamond with dugouts and seating, accessible pathways, a children’s play area and washrooms.
As the video shows, the work is continuing at a brisk pace and the project is expected to be finished and open for use by the summer of next year.
Here is what has been done so far.
- Structural steel has been erected and a metal deck has been installed
- Masonry walls completed
- Roofing is ongoing
- Door frames and window frames are being installed
- Work is underway to prepare the floor for pouring of the concrete rink slab
- Geothermal wells have been drilled at the back of the property
- Baseball diamond field posts are installed with a fence and net to follow
