Nearly 3,000 people are in the dark after a fire tore through a construction site in Burlington early on Wednesday (Aug. 2).
Halton police say the blaze started around 4:30 a.m. at a townhouse development under construction in the area of Appleby Line and Dundas St. in Burlington.
The townhomes were unoccupied according to police and no injuries have been reported, but some 2,854 homes and businesses are without power according to Burlington Hydro.
Police have blocked off Appleby Line between Dryden Avenue and Dundas Street while emergency crews are on the scene, and drivers should avoid the area or find alternate routes if possible.
The outage is expected to last until at least 9:30 a.m.
