August is flying by, but there’s still time to savour Halton’s last few weeks of summer. With a variety of events from outdoor concerts to bustling markets, here’s what’s happening in Burlington, Oakville and Milton this weekend.


August 16

 

Oakville:

Friday Night Jazz

Those looking to unwind on a patio or relax in Towne Square can enjoy live jazz by John Canham and Friends.

August 17

Burlington:

VegFest

This event, which will be held at Burloak Park and promote awareness of the health, environmental, and ethical benefits of a vegan lifestyle, will include delicious food, kids’ activities, presenters, live music and more.

Canadian South Asian Literary Festival 2024

This two-day festival, held at the Art Gallery of Burlington, celebrates South Asian literature. It features a variety of events, including poetry and engaging fiction and non-fiction discussions. The festival aims to highlight the contributions of South Asian writers and thinkers to Canada’s literary landscape.

Kidstock

Inspired by Woodstock, this event offers a day filled with music, creative workshops, fun games, and plenty of opportunities for children to express themselves in a joyful and creative environment.

Oakville Market Bazaar

This market inside Oakville Place may be a good place for those looking to spend the day browsing and shopping for unique handmade items, including jewelry, art, housewares, and clothing.

Boots in the Square

Attendees should grab their cowboy boots for a country-filled afternoon.  The day starts with an introductory line dancing class at 1 p.m., hosted by Fred Astaire Dance Studio, right in the heart of Towne Square. Stick around as the music turns up with live country tunes from Gareth Bush starting at 2 p.m.

Oakville

TD Summer Music Series: Gareth Bush

Gareth Bush, originally from Halifax and now based in Toronto, is a live performer and recording artist known for his extensive repertoire across major genres. He began songwriting, busking, and performing at 16 and eventually became Toronto’s top-rated wedding and event musician. Influenced by artists like John Mayer and Ed Sheeran, his acoustic covers, including a popular rendition of Paramore’s “Still Into You,” have earned him recognition worldwide.
