Theatrical performance about Canada’s first residential school coming soon to Milton

A theatrical dance performance about Canada’s first residential school is coming soon to the Town of Milton.

The Mush Hole performance, by Kaha:wi Dance, pays respect to survivors and acknowledges the lives and spirits of Indigenous youth who attended the Mohawk Institute.

The Mohawk Institute operated in Brantford, Ont., from 1828 to 1970. It is the oldest residential school in Canada and the one in which all other residential schools were modelled.

The performance, by an all-Indigenous cast, will take place at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton on Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m.

It will touch on the traumatic memories of two generations of survivors and is “a story about hope and finding light in dark places.”

The performance will feature mature and potentially triggering scenes that involve residential schools as well as the representation of sexual and physical abuse.

Tickets are on sale now for $35.
