Swimmer saved from waters at Burlington beach

A swimmer who was having trouble making it back to shore had to be rescued by emergency crews at Beachway Park in Burlington on Sunday (Aug. 6).

According to reports the 16-year-old, a Mississauga resident, was in the waters of Lake Ontario about 300 metres offshore when she started calling for help.

Halton Paramedics, the Burlington Fire Department and Hamilton Police Marine Unit were alerted and responded to the scene.

A police officer was the first to arrive on the scene but when he entered the water he wasn’t able to reach the teenage girl. Eventually, firefighters were able to get her safely back to shore.

The rescued swimmer was taken to the hospital to get checked out but was later released.
