‘Suspicious washroom fire’ triggers emergency evacuation at Georgetown Market Place

Police asking for help in arson investigation

Halton Regional Police are investigating a fire that broke out inside a washroom at Georgetown Market Place causing the area to be evacuated.

On Friday (Dec. 15) shortly before  2:30 p.m. police say they responded to a fire at 280 Guelph Street, Georgetown.

According to investigators, the fire was discovered in a public washroom and was extinguished by the Halton Fire Department.

Police have officially deemed the incident as “suspicious in nature” and are actively pursuing an investigation.

Authorities have refrained from sharing details about the fire, including its origin and the specific location within the bathroom where it started.

Police have not disclosed any person of interest, released surveillance images, or provided a description of the individual or individuals involved.

The amount in damages to the washroom are unknown at this time.

Investigators say the Georgetown Market Place remains closed.
