Three students have been elected to sit on the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB).

Chosen from amongst their peers in the school system, the student trustees will serve on the board for the 2024-2025 school year.

Candidates from all HCDSB secondary schools were nominated based on their significant engagement within their school, parish, and local communities.

Here are the biographies of each student trustee:

Burlington Trustee: Isabel Yeboah

Yeboah is currently a Grade 10 honour roll student at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School. She demonstrates her commitment to excel academically while maintaining a balance with extracurricular activities. She is a “Global Citizen” dedicated to advocating for system change. She actively participates in various social justice initiatives and a wide range of other activities such as art, basketball and track and field.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to represent Burlington as a student trustee,” said Yeboah. “It’s not lost on me how huge of an opportunity this is, so I am extremely grateful to my HCDSB peers for giving me a chance to help students and give them a platform to share their voices. I want to show that student’s voice matters and our opinions are so valuable because, at the end of the day, this is our education. I am super excited to come up with some great ideas with my amazing fellow trustees that will bring out the best in our school board. I’m ready to work hard and I know that we will do some fantastic things in the future.

North Halton Trustee: Sophia Philbert

Philbert is currently a Grade 11 honour roll student at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School. She demonstrates a high level of commitment to her coursework and the ability to manage the many extracurricular tasks she is involved with including HCDSB student senator and volleyball team member. She has enthusiastically embraced this work both in the school and larger community.

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to represent students across the HCDSB,” said Philbert. “As students, our voices are powerful vehicles of change and I am super excited to use such a privileged position to bring both meaningful changes and student input to the board, alongside my amazing co-trustees.”

Oakville Trustee: Lauren McGuire

McGuire is currently a Grade 11 honour roll student at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School. Lauren serves as student senator co-lead, and contributes to the HCDSB board-wide equity group and the EQAO student advisory, a provincial-level committee. This past year she has been a member of the Student Trustee Association. Additionally, she has been a member of Best Buddies, the debate team, and the REACH Trivia Team junior captain. Her dedication to the school and the HCDSB community is evident through her performance as student trustee representing Oakville for the 2023-2024 school year.

“It’s a privilege to be re-elected as a Student Trustee for Oakville for the 2024 – 2025 school year, it’s an honour to be able to serve the students of the HCDSB,” said McGuire. “I am excited to work alongside my new co-student trustees, our student senators and the board of trustees to bring more positive change to the board. I can’t wait to see what we will accomplish.”
