Still time to register for Burlington community garden program
Published October 30, 2024 at 7:51 pm
One of the most popular programs in Burlington, the community garden project allows residents an opportunity to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs in a plot in a designated area at one of five parks.
Each garden has full sun, water supply, soil, compost, wood chips for pathways, a storage shed, some large tools, compost bins and a picnic table. Garden locations: Amherst Park, Central Park, Francis Road Bikeway, Ireland Park, Maple Park.
Due to high demand, the garden plots are for one season and applicants will have to apply each year. The plots are chosen by lottery after all applications are submitted by December 15 of this year.
Application forms can be found here.
Other things gardeners should consider:
- There will be no wait list or carry-over to the next year.
- The garden season begins May 1 and ends October 31.
- The plot fee is $48 plus $10 insurance and applicable taxes.
- Only Burlington residents over 18 years old may apply. One per household.
- All applicants and plot permit holders are responsible for informing the community garden coordinator and updating their Live and Play account if there is any change to their contact information.
- All plots must be entirely cleared at the end of the season.
You can apply for either a ground-based or raised-accessible garden plot.
Plots are assigned by lottery draw. Notice of lottery outcome will be communicated in January 2025.
