Smilezone murals brighten up visits to Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington

Making a visit to the hospital a little more friendly and a lot less clinical is the reason behind the creation of the Smilezone at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington.
Located in the Maternal & Child area on level 2 in the north tower of the hospital, the Smilezone features outdoor-themed murals including one that depicts Burlington’s own Spencer Smith Pari and Pier. They can be seen in the hallways, lounges and four patient rooms.
“Our team is dedicated to providing excellent family-centred care,” said Leslie Motz, the hospital’s Executive Vice-President Clinical and Chief Nursing Executive. “The new Smilezone enhances the hospital experience by creating bright and enjoyable spaces that patients and their families can enjoy for years to come.”
Maternal & Child area includes physicians, midwives, nurses, lactation consultants, social workers, respiratory therapists and dieticians. They provide a broad range of services to address the physical and emotional needs of pregnant persons, newborns, children and adolescents.
The Oakville-based Smilezone Foundation is a charity that has created 340 “Smilezones” in waiting rooms, treatment rooms and patient care rooms across Canada.
The Joseph Brant Smilezone was created through a donation made by Bill and Donna Hook and the Smilezone Foundation.
“Providing pediatric patients and the passionate caregivers at Joseph Brant Hospital with an uplifting and cheerful environment gives our family great pleasure,” said Bill and Donna Hook. “Our love for children runs deep, having raised three of our own and now six grandchildren in this beautiful city of Burlington.
