Should an Express Train Return to Halton Hills?

It seemed like a great idea when the Ontario government announced back in December of 2018 that there will be expanded service along the Kitchener GO line.
This GO Transit line serves the Halton Region, as well as Brampton, Guelph, and Kitchener.
As of Jan. 7, for people travelling between Kitchener and Toronto’s Union Station there is an additional GO train service every weekday morning and afternoon with a new trip option for travellers in Guelph, Kitchener, and Acton.
This, however, has proven to be frustrating for some residents in Halton Hills. As a result, Mayor Rick Bonnette contacted the Minister of Transportation.
“I wrote to the Minister earlier this month and I’m doing it again,” Bonnette said in a recent press release.
“Metrolinx is tinkering with the GO Train service and it’s simply unacceptable to make changes that so negatively impact Halton Hills residents.”
According to the release, the GO Transit change leaves some riders with no choice but to take the run with multiple stops.
This has caused excessive travel times for many residents, as well as impacting daycare arrangements, and resulted in long works days for some.
In order to help address these issues, Bonnette is advocating for the return of an express train.
“I am hopeful that the Minister will listen,” Bonnette said in the release.
