Several Burlington lakefront parks will continue to see upgrades as part of a two-year overhaul to the shoreline.
The Windows-to-the-Lake project has already seen the completion of work at the foot of Walkers Line, now the attention has turned to the Appleby Place location.
Windows-to-the-Lake are small park settings along the shoreline, connecting Burlington residents to Lake Ontario.
“They are a place to meet, take a rest, observe nature, listen to the waves, watch weather move across the water, and enjoy the beauty of sunsets over the lake,” according to the City of Burlington.
The entire Windows-to-the-Lake project will take place over the next two years with each site renewal providing a paved pathway and accessible seating.
Work at Appleby Place will include:
- Tree removals on the slope to the lake (already completed)
- Shoreline reconstruction
- Removal of existing light standard
- Permeable pavement service area around the existing forcemain utility area
- Concrete walkways
- Accessible ramp entrance
- A new thin profile retaining wall adjacent to the proposed ramp, to protect existing black locust trees
- A decorative pedestrian guard at the top of the lake bank
- Park identification signs and interpretive signage
- Site furnishings – benches, waste receptacle, bike rack, bollards
- Trees, shrubs and planting bed
The Appleby Place phase of the work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The Green Street portion of the Windows-to-the-Lake project is expected to begin next year.
