Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Milton, Halton Hills

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Milton and Halton Hills.

This means meteorologists are now tracking the storm capable of producing strong wind gusts as high as 90 km/h as well as hail and heavy rains.

As well as Milton and the Halton Hills communities of Acton and Georgetown, other nearby locations that could be affected include Orangeville, Erin, Rockwood, Forks of the Credit Provincial Park, Belwood, Oustic, Orton, Marsville, Laurel, Brucedale, Eden Mills, Hillsburgh, Alton, Moffat, Haltonville, Belfountain, Ballinafad and Caledon Village.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” Environment Canada states in its alert. “Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.
