Rising costs mean only one Halton Hills swimming pool will get fixed next year

Plans are underway to repair the Acton indoor swimming pool, but because of rising costs the fixes planned for the Georgetown pool will have to wait.
A report going to Halton Hills council shows the work that is to be done at the Acton pool will cost almost twice as much as expected — from the budgeted $88,000 to $156,000 — and the extra funds will be taken from the money previously earmarked for the Georgetown pool repairs.
The Acton pool, located at Mackenzie-Smith Bennett Public Elementary School, will see the lower basin be repaired and replaced due to its age. Built it the 1970s, it was resurfaced in 2009 and had repairs to the basin in 2019. The 25-metre pool contains six lanes and is used for a variety of purposes by the community. The finished work is expected to last about 10 years, according to the report.
As well, because of the work at the Acton pool, it will have to close and be unavailable to users for about three weeks beginning in the middle of March.
Meanwhile, because of the cost of the Acton job, the anticipated fixes in Georgetown have to be put on hold.
That pool, located at Georgetown District High School, is not in urgent need of repairs, according to the report.
