Rik Emmett of the legendary Canadian rock band Triumph will be a featured participant at this year’s Burlington Lyrics & Poetry Festival.

As singer, songwriter and guitarist for the band, Emmett has appeared before crowds numbering in the thousands headlining music festivals around the world but his appearance in Burlington will be in a far more intimate setting.

Emmett’s appearance will be in the Central Library where he will share his stories and memories of his care as well as discuss his autobiography Lay It on the Line: A Backstage Pass to Rock Star Adventure, Conflict and Triumph.

Having released 32 albums, Emmett’s career goes well beyond rock and roll. The accomplished guitarist also performs blues, jazz, folk and classical music as well as writing regularly for guitar magazines. He also published a book of poetry, Reinvention, in 2021.

Emmett is a resident of Burlington.

Stage and screen star Marilyn Lightstone will also be a special guest and read from her collection Nocturne: Poems to Linger Over which features the works from renowned and lesser-known poets.

One of Canada’s most accomplished performers, Lightstone is probably best known for her role as Miss Stacey in the television productions of Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea.

The Burlington Lyrics & Poetry Festival also provides the opportunity to experience a variety of expressive formats including slam poetry, and spoken word as well as workshops on writing and the various ways to bring your expressions to an audience.

All events are free to attend, whether or not you are a library member. Registration opens at noon on March 20.

The festival takes place throughout April at the Central Library, 2331 New Street.
