Red light runners fined almost $500,000 at busy Burlington intersection

A Burlington intersection is recording the most red light infractions in all of Halton Region.

And the fines issued during the six-year monitoring period have amounted to $470,000.

Red light cameras capture images of vehicles entering an intersection when the light has turned red. The license plate is recorded and a ticket is sent to the owner of the vehicle.

Data supplied by the region shows that Guelph Line and South Service Road (near the QEW eastbound off-ramp) has had the most tickets issued during a six-year period ending in 2023. There were 1,447 infractions during that time.

The fine for running a red light is $325.

In Burlington, five intersections have red light cameras. They are only placed on roads controlled by Halton Regions. The City of Burlington does not have a red light camera program.

Across Halton, red light cameras are placed at 23 locations and the most recent data from 2023 shows a total of 14,588 infractions.
