The need for affordable housing is one of the most important issues in Oakville and Canada right now.

It is believed that 1.4 million households in Canada don’t have access to quality housing.

Oakville is working on developing its Housing Strategy and Action Plan and is looking for the public’s input to make “Oakville a vibrant and livable community for all.”

The Town will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Town Hall where the public can share their ideas on how to improve housing supply, choice, affordability and accelerate delivery of housing.

Residents can drop into the Oakville Room at Town Hall from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Pre-registration is not required.

“This is an opportunity to meet town planning staff, get highlights on the draft Housing Strategy and Action Plan, which includes six goals and objectives and 70 actions intended to achieve positive housing outcomes,” said the Town of Oakville in its release.

The draft Housing Strategy and Action Plan is available on the town’s website. An online survey is also available for residents to provide their input until Oct. 22.

The input will then be used by staff when reporting back to Town Council in 2024.

The final Housing Strategy and Action Plan will guide decision making and actions to facilitate housing supply, accelerate housing delivery and improve housing choice and affordability.

Oakville Town Hall is located at 1225 Trafalgar Rd.
