Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used the backdrop of Milton on Friday (Sept. 2) to plant some trees and talk about the environment.

On a day spent visiting several location in Halton Region, the prime minister joined several young people at Conservation Halton’s Area 8 on Steeles Ave. to also meet with local officials and conservationists while he toured the site.

Previously, Area 8 was used as a quarry and Trudeau praised the efforts that were made to restore the site to its former green beginnings.

“What was once an industrial quarry here has been transformed into a public nature space. And when we stopped by Area 8 to commemorate its restoration, we met with local youth to talk about building a clean and healthy future – which remains a top priority for our government,” Trudeau said via social media.

Trudeau planted two trees reportedly, a poplar and an eastern white cedar.

He was expected to also meet with community groups in Oakville today.
