A popular landmark in Oakville has been sold, but the new owners will continue to operate it as a restaurant.
Evangelos Tzaras, the owner of Fiftie’s Diner, confirmed on the restaurant’s Facebook page that the establishment will soon be under new management.
“We at Fiftie’s Diner Oakville have sold the business. Primarily so the Ellie our 76 year old server/ awesome prep cook, can retire,” wrote Tzaras, calling the news bittersweet.
“As many of you know, the past three-and-a-half years have been very challenging to say the least, pandemic, lockdowns, occupancy restrictions, build up of arrears. Soooo, it appears that the time has come to move on.”
The restaurant, with its 1950’s theme, serves traditional diner food, mostly breakfast and lunch, at Fourth Line and Speers Rd.
Tzaras said much of the staff has been retained by the new owners and he’ll be kept busy for a while.
“I will still be working in a training capacity and my contract is six months, so you’re not rid of me yet. We really hope that you support the new owners as only the Fifties crew can do.”
