Get ready to splash into summer as the long-awaited reopening of Burlington’s Mountainside Outdoor Pool is just around the corner.
The grand opening event is planned for June 30 at 3:30 p.m. with Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and members of council to officially cut the ribbon.
To help celebrate, Mountainside Pool visitors on June 30 will be able to get a free hotdog or hamburger, beginning at 4 p.m., while supplies last. Residents are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle.
Swimming at the pool will be free all weekend.
“The pool is back and ready to be a hub of fun, activity and to create summer memories for another 50 years of swimmers,” said Emilie Cote, director of Recreation, Community and Culture.
“It’s an improved pool design with several improvements such as separated lap lanes, climbing wall and large water slide. I hope everyone has the opportunity to enjoy it soon.”
The pool’s revitalization has created an attractive, fun, active and welcoming multi-use outdoor swimming pool.
Revitalization highlights include:
- A new pool with a beach entry
- Three separate 50M lap lanes
- Accessibility ramps
- Water spray features
- Climbing wall
- Waterslide
- Shade structures
“We’re glad to have this project completed in time for the summer swimming season,” said Jennifer Johnson, senior project manager, Facilities and Buildings.
“The project had its challenges from the pandemic, supply issues and unfavourable weather. I am thankful for the consultants, architects and contractors who put in a lot of thought and hard work to get us to completion.”
Mountainside Outdoor Pool and Splash Park, located at 2205 Mount Forest Dr., is an important community hub and aquatic recreation destination in the Mountainside neighbourhood.
The pool is well used and offers local residents a wide variety of activities including recreational swimming, lap swimming and learn to swim lessons each summer.
