POLL: 80 per cent want a Costco in Milton, but can the Town handle it?

A recent poll conducted by insauga revealed that 80 per cent of respondents would like to see a Costco in the Town of Milton.
Currently, the closest Costco locations for Milton residents remain either Burlington or Mississauga leaving many people wondering whether they will ever get a store of their very own.
For some time, word on the street was that a Costco would be coming to the Milton Fairgrounds, which turned out to only be an April Fool’s joke.
In fact, according to an online thread about this very topic, one user has even referred to it as an ongoing joke.
“It comes up all the time and it is literally a recurring joke that there is no Costco,” read the comment.
With Milton’s current population being a total of 110,128 people, many people may also be wondering why other locations such as Kelowna, which has a population of 132,084 people, got their own Costco.
Insauga reached out to Costco Wholesale Canada and while they couldn’t reveal any future development plans, Councillor Mike Cluett has made it very clear that the Town will not in fact be getting a Costco any time soon.
“No, they are not building a Costco in Milton. I can assure you of that,” wrote Cluett in an online thread.
In the thread, Cluett confirmed that there are businesses being built in Derry Green Business Park, but a Costco isn’t one of them.
“Right now there are no plans for a Costco. They are keeping an eye on Milton, but nothing formal as of yet. They have a location in Mississauga and Guelph and Burlington and nothing in the works for Milton.”
Insauga will be reaching out to Costco Wholesale Canada again in the future to inquire about any updates regarding future development plans. For the time being, though, it looks like Milton residents will still have to depend on nearby locations.
