Halton Police are searching for two suspects following a fraud-related occurrence that took place in Burlington.

According to police, a male and female suspect are believed to have developed a bar code system that they insert over top of the actual barcode of prepaid Visa’s and MasterCards before placing them back on the store shelves.

The unsuspecting consumer purchases the cards and loads funds that they believe are going onto their card, however, the funds are being loaded onto another card for the suspects to make purchases.

On June 12, 2019, a victim purchased a MasterCard at the Shoppers Drug Mart located at 503 Plains Rd., Burlington and loaded $150.00 onto it.

Police say that the victim discovered the fraudulent bar code with a different card number than the actual MasterCard located within the sealed packaging.

The victim then checked the card and discovered that his funds were not loaded onto it.

After speaking with MasterCard, it was discovered that the fraudulent card was used at the Pump House Grill located at 40 Lakeshore Rd. E., in Port Credit.

Images were captured of the suspects.

The suspects are described as being Middle Eastern, and between the ages of 50 and 60-years-old.
