Police call results ‘dismal’ after 14 trucks put out of service in Oakville safety blitz

The Halton Regional Police Service Commercial Motor Vehicle unit held a Safestart truck blitz in Oakville on Tuesday and the results were “dismal.”

Of the 22 trucks that went underwent 22 Level 1 inspections, a whopping 14 (63.6 per cent) were placed out of service.

“Brake defects, overloading and insecure loads were the common issues,” said Halton police.

The busy day resulted in the local police road safety unit handing out 99 offence notices and one truck had its plates seized.

Reaction on social media was grateful to the police for making the roads safer.

“Much respect as it was way too hot to be crawling today,” said Clare K in a tweet on the X site formerly known as Twitter. “Thanks for the determination to make our roads a better place.”

Many were taken back by how many trucks were place out of service.

“Out of 22 Level 1 inspections, 14 were taken off the road. Did I understand this right,” said LordRob in a tweet. “If so, that is unbelievable. And hats off to the officers working in this heat. Much hotter around the big trucks too.

“Wow just wow.”
