A man is fighting for his life in hospital after a multi-vehicle crash at a busy intersection in Milton last night.

Halton Regional Police responded to an eight-vehicle collision around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Derry Road and Ontario Street South.

Investigators say a GMC Sierra, driven by a 35-year-old Milton man, was travelling west on Derry Road when it collided with multiple vehicles near the intersection. The truck then crossed the centre median, overturned and struck several eastbound vehicles before stopping in the eastbound lanes.

One of the eastbound vehicles, a Toyota Corolla driven by a 55-year-old man from Milton, was struck and its driver suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a trauma centre and remains in critical condition, police say.

It is not yet known whether any occupants of the other vehicles involved in the collision sustained injuries.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Police are asking witnesses or those with dashboard camera footage to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747 ext. 5065.

A user on X (formerly Twitter) posted photos of what appears to be the aftermath of the crash. One photo shows a heavily crushed silver car, its roof and sides torn apart, with debris scattered across the road. Police cars with flashing lights and a fire truck are visible in the background.

In another image, a red GMC truck can be seen overturned on its side, propped up by support beams, surrounded by debris.

In a third picture, onlookers and police officers can be seen near the wreckage, some even taking photos.
