A $60 million extreme makeover is underway for the redevelopment of Burlington Mall, and it’s just in time for its 50th anniversary.

Better shopping and big-name tenants – including Indigo, Winners, and Denninger’s – are on deck for those seeking retail therapy.

New leases have been signed with Denninger’s (23,000 square-feet.), Indigo (22,500 square-feet), while Winners (22,000 square-feet) will move into a new location in the mall.

Tenants are slated to take possession of their spaces by year end.

The former Target Canada location at Burlington Mall will be redesigned to accommodate three new large format tenants, and the remaining space of approximately 28,000 sf. will be used to house smaller shops and restaurants.

A new entrance fronting onto Guelph Line will also be unveiled as part of the renovation.

In addition to these new retail and restaurant offerings, there will be several other upgrades throughout the mall, including a new corridor connecting the existing food court to the HomeSense corridor, washroom upgrades, new ceilings in the food court, and new furniture.

The mall’s interior will also receive new flooring, lighting and more comfortable seating.

So here’s a look at what’s happening now.

We’ll start with the big trench in front of the food court entrance, where new electrical services means better energy efficiency.

New poles and lights have gone in, and trenching is nearly finished in parking lots.

Here’s the new entrance facing Guelph Line. Customers entering here will be in the new section, connecting with the main corridor leading to Shoppers Drug Mart and EB Games.

This is the former Sport Chek, the interior of which has been demolished. It’s going to be part of the new corridor — one large space.

The former truck court on the building’s north side is gone.

Demolition on the north face of the mall may soon be finished.

Skylights have been installed for the new Guelph Line entrance.

Existing concrete floors have been cut inside. New ceramic tile is in store.

Finally, let’s conclude with the gorgeous skylight.

Stores are expected to open in early 2018.
