Katie Cosgriffe got it done in the pool.
The 18-year-old swimmer won the bronze medal on Tuesday (Sept 3) in the women’s S10 100-metre butterfly at the Paralympic Games in France.
Born in Burlington and now a resident of Oakville, Cosgriffe finished with a time of 1:07.22 finishing behind British swimmers Faye Rogers who won gold at 1:05.84, and silver medalist Callie-Ann Warrington at 1:06.41.
Speaking to a television audience on the CBC after the race, Cosgriffe said she was satisfied with the result.
“I’m not thrilled with the time, but obviously I’m thrilled with the race today,” she said. “I don’t have a lot of words.”
Cosgriffe, who swims out of the Oakville Aquatic Club, received her international classification for the sport just last year after initially being diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a condition that affects motor skills and touch sensation in the limbs.
With one medal already to her credit, Cosgriffe will enter the pool again in Paris games taking part in the 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley.
