Significant plans have just been announced to help overhaul Oakville’s tourism economy.
In an official release earlier today (Oct. 8), Visit Oakville (the region’s primary tourism organization) revealed its plans to re-launch the Tourism Investment Fund.
Officially launched in 2019, this funding incentive was built from the ground up to provide local organizations with better financial padding when hosting events that encouraged overnight stays in the area.
During that time, Vist Oakville provided several organizations with $16,000 to help bolster their events.
According to the official release, this new program has smoothed some of the edges from its previous version and now showcases Visit Oakville’s commitment to sustainable tourism through diversity and inclusion.
Specifically, in this case, by providing funding incentives for organizations that exhibit the mentioned values during off-peak season events from October 2024 to April 2025.
“We are thrilled to relaunch the Tourism Investment Fund with a continued focus on the economic importance of overnight stays, while underscoring the importance of sustainability, diversity, and inclusion,” said Rebecca Edgar, Executive Director of Visit Oakville in an official statement.
According to Visit Oakville, eligible events include regional, provincial, national, and international tournaments and contests, festivals over a multi-day period, live music performances and conferences.
Additional information has also indicated that the application period for organizations is currently open from October 2024 to the end of November 2024.
