Over $1-million provided to Burlington manufacturer by the federal government to boost Electric Vehicle production

The federal government is supplying a Burlington manufacturer with $1.2 million to boost national electric vehicle production.

The news broke earlier this week, on Oct. 15, when the Government of Canada announced that B.S.B. Manufacturing Ltd, a Burlington-based assembly company, would receive $1.2 million to support its shift from industrial incentives into EV component manufacturing.

“B.S.B. is built on a strong foundation of high-quality products, in-house expertise and cutting-edge solutions. Thanks to the FedDev Ontario funding, we’ve been able to invest in new machinery, tooling, automation and robotics, ensuring that we can retain direct and indirect manufacturing jobs in Canada,” said Narinder Bhogal, President of B.S.B. Manufacturing Ltd in an official statement.

Parallel to the funding announcement was a visit from Filomena Tassi — Minister for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev) —  to assess the B.S.B.’s inner workings and goals with EV component manufacturing.

Upon her visit, Tassi further highlighted the importance of southern Ontario’s role in the national EV race.

“The Government of Canada is committed to supporting these companies as they help Canada to make progress towards its goal of reaching net-zero emissions and build a competitive EV sector in the region,” said Tassi in an official statement.

According to the federal government, this $1.2-million funding initiative to Burlington is just one component of a $12-million national investment to help six manufacturers (including B.S.B.Manufacturing Ltd) scale up EV production nationwide.
