One person has died and three others injured after a pickup truck crash while fleeing police in Burlington.
Reports say the vehicle was stopped by officers just before 4 a.m. this morning (Jan. 29) for speeding.
According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has taken over the investigation, “two Halton Regional Police Service officers stopped the driver of a truck for speeding on the Queen Elizabeth Way at Guelph Line. The driver fled. The officers came upon a collision at the Brant Street off-ramp. It was the pickup truck.”
A 26-year-old has since been pronounced dead. Three passengers in the pickup truck were taken to the hospital and are being treated for various injuries.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has since been called in to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
The westbound Brant St. off-ramp has been closed for several hours while the SIU continues its investigation.
