Another longtime Oakville summer festival has been cancelled.

In an online statement, Kerr Village Business Improvement Association (BIA) announced that inflation and rising costs have forced them to cancel Kerrfest this year.

“Due to the current economic challenges, including inflation and rising supplier costs, we have had to make the decision to modify this year’s event,” said the statement. “As a non-profit organization, our priority is to ensure a revenue-neutral event that benefits the community and promotes Kerr Village BIA.”

This marks the second large summer festival that was cancelled this year in Oakville.

Midnight Madness, which traditionally attracts tens of thousands of visitors into downtown for a night each summer, was cancelled by the Downtown Oakville BIA after the merchants that host the event decided to switch direction and focus on other activities.

While Kerrfest has been put on hiatus, organizers said the 4th Annual Kerrfest Kids event is still on and will be held Sept. 10th in Westwood Park.

Organizers said they are dedicated to exploring new strategies, partnerships and avenues of support to ensure the success of the outdoor music festival in the future.

Organizers are asking local residents for their continued support and patience and said they are grateful for all the spirit the community has always shown for the festival since it first started in 2014.

“We understand the disappointment this may bring to all those who were looking forward to Kerrfest this year,” the statement continued. “We share your passion and enthusiasm for this beloved community festival, and we want to assure you that we are committed to making Kerrfest a continued success in Kerr Village.”

The Kerr Village BIA is encouraging the public to follow its website or social media for news, updates on any progress and developments regarding Kerrfest 2024.

Residents can also go to there to find out about other community events that may be taking place in Kerr Village.

“We extend our sincere thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers, performers, vendors, and community members who have been involved in making Kerrfest a cherished event over the years,” said the Kerr Village BIA. “We appreciate your understanding and support, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Kerrfest in 2024.”

The 4th Annual Kerrfest Kids event is free for the whole family. An announcement regarding the entertainment lineup is coming soon.
